So my Cutlass has a water leak coming from the weatherstripping on the driver’s side rear vent window. Any idea on how to fix this? My idea involves patching it up with duct tape from the back side, then squeezing superglue into the gap. What would Oppo do?

Can you post a picture? Your post is vague...

It’s an Oldsmobile. They leak.
Trust me, I know. I’ve been resealing windshields and adjusting window regulators to combat leaks more often than I want to admit

I don’t have any pictures on me, and the car is 20 minutes away at a friend’s shop. Basically, it goes like this: there is a split in the weatherstripping that is allowing water in. I am planning on patching it from the back with duct tape, then using hobby-grade super glue to bridge the gap and make it 100% water tight.

Fair enough. I’m just trying to keep my velour from getting musty.

You can try replacing the weatherstripping, but the reproduction stuff doesn’t fit as good as new old stock.
A good old fashioned band-aid fix will do the trick for some time if it hasn’t deteriorated badly.

It isn’t all dry-rotted, so a little band-aid fix should be fine for now. Unfortunately, I can’t find any reproduction stuff for my 4-door G-body.

As long as your window channels aren’t rusted out for the front/rear or your window regulator tracks are bad for the sides, you can keep bandaiding the weatherstripping with dum-dum sealant until you find replacements

Window channels are fine, window regulators are fine. Mind you, I only need to seal it for the rear vent window.

Put some dum dum (I think the real name for it is flowable butyl sealant) on the split and the cover the dum dum with some tape so it doesn’t get all sticky.

Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.
